Geoládák · Help

First steps

Familiarization with the application and preparation for the tour.

What can the Geoládák app be used for?

With the Geoládák application, you can search for geocaching.hu geocaches, read their data sheets, record your logs and plan tours. You can also display attractions, hiking spots and services on the map. You can save your own places, itineraries and trails, and record your visits to supported locations.

The application separately manages the map, geocache list, complete geocache data sheets, logos and databases of additional locations. Updating one of them does not automatically mean updating all other data.

First boot settings

The first settings are guided by the initial wizard. In the wizard, you can select the language, enable the use of location data, and log in to your geocaching.hu account or your Geoládák cloud storage account. Where a "later" option is displayed, the given step can be postponed.

The settings specified at the start can be changed later: display and location are "Settings → General", accounts can be managed on the Profile page.

Using the main menu

You can open the main side menu with the top left menu button on the pages. If you want to open with a swipe, turn on the option "Can be opened by swiping" in the "Settings → General → Side menu" section.

In the main menu, you can access the following interfaces:

Menu itemPurpose

The menu item "Café" is available on Android and iOS. The menu item "Exit" appears on Android.

Main menu header and footer information

At the top of the main menu, there is a separate line for the Geoládák cloud storage and the geocaching.hu account. If you have not yet logged in to the given service, you can open the login by tapping on the line. Once logged in, the line leads to the Profile page.

At the bottom of the main menu, you can see the version of the geocache list and its update date. By tapping on this, after confirmation, you can start updating the geocache list. Underneath, you can see a text description of your own position, coordinates, and the time of sunrise and sunset. Location-bound data requires location determination.

The role of the lower ears

There are five options at the bottom of the main page. "Map" will open the map. "Places" will open a category and filter panel. "Route plan" manages the points and parameters of the currently compiled route. "Track" shows the currently loaded track. "Record" is used to record your own movement.

The lower "Track" tab and the "Tracks" page of the main menu perform different tasks: the first one manages the data of the currently loaded trail, the second one manages the collection of saved trails. Same difference between tab "Route plan" and list "Route plans".

Required permissions and platform differences

Own position, nearby geocaches, site visit and recording require location data. Background location access must also be enabled for recording and background monitoring next to the locked screen. If you previously blocked access, you can change it in the phone's system settings.

The camera is required for taking photos and for the native app's QR code reader. To use the gallery, you must grant the access requested by the device. For proximity and area signals, also check the notification permissions.

In the browser version, the options for sensors, file management and background operation are also affected by the browser. The operation of the background functions of the native application in the browser version is not guaranteed.

There are five geocache types in the geocache list:

Geocache typeWhat do you expect?
TraditionalYou are looking for a physical box as described.
MultiSeveral stations belong to a geocache; points and password details are managed using the Points tab.
VirtualThe on-site information given in the description must be found, there is not necessarily a box.
EventA geocache associated with an event; see the conditions and time of availability in the description.
MovingThe location of the geocache may vary; the conditions for forwarding and re-hiding are always included in its own description.

The type and status are separate data: the geocache can be searchable, sick or discontinued. Filters for type and status can be found in the “Places → Geoládák” panel.

The relationship between the application and geocaching.hu

Geoládák is an application using geocache data from geocaching.hu. Your geocaching.hu account manages the personal actions associated with the game; the app's cloud storage account belongs to your own app data. The map, tour planning, own places and trails can be useful even without a geocache search.

You can import supported GPX/KML/FIT tour data from other sources as a file; the details are in the Tracks chapter.

Preparing a trip step by step

  1. Select a destination on the map or in the "Nearby caches" list. Use the filters in the "Places" panel to display the geocaches and locations you are looking for.
  2. Read the description and access data of the selected geocache. See also the related parking lots and aid points.
  3. Plan a route or load a route from your own collection, file or catalog. Check the distance and available level data.
  4. On the "Places" panel, turn on the necessary services, such as water bodies or rest areas. If necessary, update the location data on the corresponding settings page.
  5. Save the plan and prepare the necessary offline geocache data, images, track and map in Offline use according to chapter.
  6. If you use another device for the tour, transfer the plan to it as well. Check the permissions of the location data and the background functions you want to use on the given phone.

These are separate operations: saving a plan does not automatically download all map tiles or geocache descriptions around the road.

Use during the tour and at the end of the tour

At the starting point, you can save your current position under the name "Parking", and then turn on position tracking next to the loaded route. If you also want your own recording, start track recording separately on the "Record" tab: displaying a plan or track does not in itself record your movement.

At Multiláda, you can collect the details on the "Points" tab of the geoláda: you can save password details, your own points and a note. Without Internet, the log can be saved as a draft; the save is not submitted yet. You can add the most important places to be approached as monitored points if the conditions for proximity notification are met.

At the end of the tour, first pause the recording, then stop and save it. Selecting "Cancel" in the save window will discard the fixed points. Later, you will find the saved route in the "Tracks → My Track" list; you can also export from here. Check drafts, pending submissions, and cloud save status if you've used them.
