Accounts and data backup

Login, cloud backup and phone switching.

The difference between a geocaching.hu account and a cloud storage account

Geoládák manages two separate accounts. The geocaching.hu account is connected to the logos written for the geocaches, the downloading of your own logos and the personal marking of finds. The cloud storage account Geoládák can be used to save your own app data, site visits and related cloud history.

The two logins are not interchangeable. Logging in to geocaching.hu does not turn on cloud saving by itself, and logging into cloud storage does not log in to geocaching.hu.

Login to the geocaching.hu account

  1. Open the main menu and tap on the geocaching.hu line in the header.
  2. Log in with your geocaching.hu account.
  3. After successful login, your account information will appear in the header.

You can also start the geocaching.hu login from the geocaching.hu section of the Profile page. The find marks are downloaded by the app when logging in and when updating the geocache list. You can retrieve the content of "My Logs" using its separate update button.

If you would like to manually request a new token due to an expired login, log out first in the Profile geocaching.hu section. Turn on the "Login with new token" switch that appears when you are logged out, then log in again. This is a login setting, not a separate action visible for an already logged-in account. If the app itself asks you to log in again while sending a log, follow the process: it will save the entered logo and continue saving after logging in.

Cloud storage registration, login and password

From the "Cloud storage" line of the main menu, you can open the login window and switch to registration. E-mail, Google and Apple account options may appear on the interface; availability also depends on the platform.

When registering by e-mail, the application asks for an e-mail address, a password and its confirmation. Errors in the fields are indicated by the interface. For a forgotten e-mail account password, select "Forgot password", enter your e-mail address, and then follow the instructions in the email you receive. You manage your own access to the external Google or Apple account with the respective service provider.

Overview of the Profile page

After logging in, tap on the corresponding account line in the main menu to open the Profile. The page combines the cloud storage account, geocaching.hu account, discoveries and saving options. Some parts are only displayed if you are logged in.

In the "Discoveries" section you will find the latest badges, "My badges", "My collections" and "Discovered places". In the "Backup & sync" section, you can start a manual save and restore and see the time of the last successful save. If a save has not yet been made, this page will indicate this separately.

Manual backup

Access: "Profile → Backup & sync → Save data". Requirement: Geoládák cloud storage login; uploading requires an internet connection.

  1. Choose the action "Save data".
  2. Select the data categories to be saved in the list that appears.
  3. Confirm the save and wait for its result.

In manual saving, you can select settings, geocache points and passwords, route plans, tracks and your own locations. This backup is about personal app data: don't consider the full copy of offline map tiles and geocache data sheets as part of the cloud backup.

The save category "Cache points, passwords" contains, in addition to the own points and password details saved for the geocache, the favorite mark and the geocache notes.

Automatic backup

Access: "Profile → Automatic backup". Automatic saving of geocache points and passwords, route plans, tracks and own locations can be switched on separately. This feature requires a signed-in cloud storage account.

With the "Auto-backup on WiFi only" setting, you can connect the upload to Wi-Fi. Saving offline or waiting for WiFi is not an immediately completed save: you can also check the remaining task on the "Settings → Developer log → Queue" tab.

Automatic saving of geocache points and passwords also saves their associated favorite marks and geocache notes.

Site visits have their own cloud sync. They don't need to be turned on with autosave switches for tracks and own locations.

Restoring data and switching phones

Access: "Profile → Backup & sync → Restore data". Log in to the same Geoládák cloud storage account that the previous save belongs to.

  1. Start the operation "Restore data".
  2. Choose the categories to restore: settings, geocache points and passwords, route plans, trails, own places or POI visits.
  3. Read the overwrite warning and then confirm the operation.

The reset may overwrite the selected local data. Therefore, do not treat the reloading of saved routes, tracks and places as automatic merging with the current list. If the current device also has data to keep, take care of it before restoring.

Restoring POI visits downloads the account's visits stored on the server. Download the offline maps and geocache data required for the trip separately on the new device. Log in to the geocaching.hu account for your geocaching.hu logs.

Logout and account deletion

You can log out of the geocaching.hu account with the action "Logout" in the geocaching.hu section of the profile. The cloud storage account has the action "Account management → Sign out of cloud storage account".

"Delete cloud account" is a separate operation, requires confirmation, and applies to the cloud storage account Geoládák. Not deleting your geocaching.hu account. The required login and network connection are also important for account management operations to appear. Do not use account deletion instead of simply logging out.

Design on computer, use on phone

You can transfer a route plan created and saved on a larger screen to the phone used for the tour by saving it to the cloud.

  1. Save the route plan on the device used for planning.
  2. On the Profile, start a save with the category "Route plans" or check the completion of the enabled automatic save.
  3. On the phone, log in to the same Geoládák cloud storage account.
  4. For the operation "Profile → Restore data", select the category "Route plans".
  5. Enter the desired plan from the phone's "Route plans" list. Prepare the offline map and geocache data separately.

The same principle can be used to transfer tracks and custom locations, with the appropriate save category. The recharge must be started manually; cloud saving does not mean continuous, two-way list merging. Since the reset may overwrite the selected local category, first take care of the data you already have on the target device that you want to keep. You do not need to reset the computer settings to the phone if you only want to transfer the route plans.
