Settings
Customize the application for your own use.
Settings menu groups
Access: main menu → "Settings". The pages are displayed in groups "General", "Geocaching", "Trips", "Places, areas" and "Advanced". Changing a switch usually takes effect directly; a separate save button should only be used where the interface asks for it.
Account login and cloud backup can be found on the Profile page. Even in the case of an old message referring to the previous "User accounts" path of the settings, open the Profile from the account row of the main menu.
General: display and home page
Access: "Settings → General".
| Setup | Effect |
|---|---|
| Language | The language of the application interface. The available languages are shown in the list. |
| Home page | Map or Nearby geocaches should be the default home screen. |
| Max distance for nearby caches | Controls the search area for nearby geocaches. |
| Coordinate format | Decimal degrees, degrees and decimal minutes, or degrees-minutes-seconds display. |
| Can be opened by swiping | Enables opening the side menu by gesture. |
| Location status | Manages the visibility of the related status indication in the header. |
| Show active cache status | Handles status indication of caching in progress. |
| Keep screen on | In a supported environment, it prevents automatic screen sleep when using the app. |
The coordinate format changes the display; do not mix the shapes of degrees, minutes and seconds with different resolutions when entering coordinates manually.
General: GPS, heading sensor and network timeout
Access: "Settings → General". "High accuracy" controls the location accuracy request. Actual accuracy is affected by device and conditions.
"GPS max. cache" specifies the maximum age of stored position data that can be accepted for the related location request. A smaller value may require a more recent measurement. This setting is different from the "Accept old GPS data" switch for track recording.
On Android, you can switch the alternative direction data source "Compass sensor → Use browser sensor". If the display of the direction is problematic, its effect can be checked together with the Diagnostics data.
"HTTP Timeout (0: disabled)" controls the wait time in seconds for associated network requests. Zero turns off the time limit. This will not eliminate the internet or server error.
Maps: position, rotation and lines
Access: "Settings → Maps".
| Setup | Effect |
|---|---|
| Layer selector items | Separate page for optional base and overlays. |
| Show GPS accuracy | Map representation of the uncertainty of one's own situation. |
| Keep my location centered | The map follows your own position. |
| Rotate map to heading | The map turns to the direction of the device. |
| Block manual rotation | Limits manual rotation. |
| Multi-point connecting line | Manages the connection of related geocache points. |
| Colors | Route plan, trail, fixed trail, multipoint line and forest visit restriction color. |
Tracking and rotation can also be switched on from the own position data window on the map. Jumping to a selected point can turn them off so that the target remains visible.
Maps: zoom and markers
Access: "Settings → Maps". "Cluster grid size" controls the size of the grouping of nearby markers. The "Disable marker clustering" field is a zoom threshold: it states at which zoom level the app should not group the markers. It's not a simple yes/no switch.
"Zoom control" offers a slider, buttons or controllerless display. "Double tap + drag to zoom" is a separate gesture control. For the "My location zoom level" section, "Use current zoom level" controls the handling of the orientation magnification.
"Marker size" offers small, medium or large display. The setting changes the drawn size of the markers, not the GPS accuracy.
Layer selector elements and legend
Access: "Settings → Maps → Layer selector items", or the map layer selector gear. The range of base maps, map elements and overlay layers can be controlled separately.
The archive icon indicates cacheable content, the warning may indicate a missing condition. Some map providers require their own API key. The personal finding heat map overlay is tied to geocaching.hu login; this is not a general condition for basemaps.
The settings page also includes a vector map legend: colors of tourist routes, cycling routes and infrastructure, pavement and mountain bike markings. The layer enabled in the range must be actually selected or turned on in the map layer selector.
Offline use
Access: "Settings → Offline use". Here you can view and manually update the geocache list, turn on the startup update, and limit the automatic update to Wi-Fi.
Caching switches handle map tiles, datasheet images, and log images separately. Tiles can expire for a day, a week, a month, a year, or no expiration at all. The storage cleaner section separately deletes logos, descriptions, tiles, WebView cache, image groups and catalog tracks.
The detailed download and deletion consequences are Offline use chapter describes. Turning on a cache switch does not automatically download the missing content in its entirety.
Logs
Access: "Settings → Logs". "Default log text" is the text starting point for the new geolog. "Template sentences" can be inserted using the "Log templates" option in the log editor.
Write each template sentence on a separate line; empty lines are skipped by the app. The selected template is added to the end of the already entered text in the log editor.
"Default check-in note" is the starting note for the site visit panel. This field handles site visits separately from the default text in the geolog.
Cache data
Access: "Settings → Cache data".
| Setup | Effect |
|---|---|
| Default tab on info page | Basic data or Description should be the homepage of the Info tab. |
| Load images on WiFi only | Network loading of images is connected to Wi-Fi. |
| Download images in batch download | Basic setting of image request for batch data sheet download; other image storage and network settings also matter. |
| Log list refresh limit | The amount of logs requested during the update, also for batch downloads. |
| Reading voice | Sound or system default available on device. |
| Reading speed | The reading pace of the geocache description. |
| Data expiry warning | At what age should the app recommend an update for your geocache data. |
The reading speed can be adjusted in the range of 0.6-1.2 times on the current interface. The upper value of loglimit depends on the limit offered by the interface; don't assume the same maximum for all users.
Route planning
Access: "Settings → Route planning". Default profile, planning mode, avoidance, supported preference and route coloring can be set here. "Zoom to fit route" controls the full path adjustment associated with the new section.
The page also shows the color scales of the pavement, road type and slope. The profile determines which evasions and weightings can be set. The own parameters of the currently edited route can be managed on the bottom "Route plan" tab.
Track recording
Access: "Settings → Track recording". "Minimum update distance" is the distance filter for the capture; the current slider offers 0-20 meters. "Optimize recorded track" saves nearly straight sections with fewer points.
"GPS fast start → Accept old GPS data" temporarily accepts an earlier position until a new measurement is received. Optimization may result in a smaller file but less frequent saved points; you can judge its effect on detail by checking the recording.
Alerts
Access: "Settings → Alerts". The upper part explains the status of background monitoring and its location operation. In the "Watched Points" section, the proximity notification, its default distance and sound can be set. The default point radius is between 10 meters and 1 km; a unique value can also be specified in the Monitored points list.
In the "Area alerts" section, the forest visit restriction and the background indication of the highly protected area can be linked. The warning from the border can be set between 50 meters and 1 km, and its sound can be selected separately.
Background switches require location and notification permission. The area bar that appears in the foreground on the map works separately from the background switches; the switch is not a master switch for all map markers.
Databases of places and areas
Access: "Places, areas" group in Settings. In "közkutak.hu", "heyjoe.hu", "POIs" and "Nature conservation data", the corresponding local databases can be updated and deleted. Data groups can include auto-refresh, Wi-Fi, and expiration settings.
For public wells, it is also possible to switch on the display of closed places. The heyjoe.hu data and the general POIs do not manage the same database: the OKT/AK/RPDDK sealing places are the POIs, and the radio databases are on the Radio points page.
Radio points
Access: "Settings → Radio points". The callsign field stores the callsign used to retrieve activations. The line "My activations" shows the SOTA numbers for this year/all and POTA, the time of the sync and the possible wrong source, and a manual update can also be started.
"Refresh frequency" controls the rate of callsign retrievals. Section “Databases” handles separate download and deletion of SOTA and POTA points. The personal activation and the map point list can therefore become obsolete separately.
API keys
Access: "Settings → API keys". The site accepts OpenRouteService (HeiGIT), Mapy.cz, Thunderforest Global Maps and Mapbox keys. Links to service providers are available on the site.
The OpenRouteService key can be used for route planning as an alternative to the monthly supporter entitlement. The other keys belong to the map functions of the given service provider. The existence of the key does not guarantee the availability of the external service, the quota or the validity of the key; In case of service provider error, also check the error message of the app.
Diagnostics and Developer log
"Settings → Diagnostics" shows location permission, network, location data, accuracy and direction data. Line "Coordinate averaging" in section "Tools" opens the average tool. A test notification can be started in the notification section.
The two cards of "Settings → Developer log" are "Log" and "Queue". The log can be copied or shared, and the waiting list shows the operations still waiting to be performed. Their usage and common troubleshooting steps are a Help chapter details.
