Geocaches and points
Data sheets, password details, QR code and navigation.
Update geocache list and find mark
The geocache list contains the basic data of the geocaches. To update, tap the download icon on the main map, then select "Cache list (basic data only)". The same can be started from the geocache list data shown at the bottom of the main menu and from the page "Settings → Offline use".
Updating the geocache list does not download the full description of each geocache. In addition to logging in to Geocaching.hu, personal find marks are also updated. Downloading the "My Logs" list is a separate operation: if the map finding marks are missing, check the entry and the update of the geocache list; if the posts are missing, update my logs.
Open, first download and update a complete geocache database
On the map, tap on the marker of a geocache, then on its name in the data window. You can also open the entire data sheet from "Nearby caches", "Favorites" and from the search results.
If the complete geocache data is not yet on the device, the app will download it with an Internet connection when the data sheet is opened. If you have previously downloaded the full data sheet, use the stored version; reopening alone does not mean a new download each time. The already stored data sheet can also be read offline.
To manually update the entire data sheet, tap on the "Refresh" button in the "Basic data" section of the "Info" tab. The "Stored data updated" field helps you judge the age of the data. The app can recommend an update for outdated data; the warning time can be set on "Settings → Cache data". The log list of the geocache can be updated separately by pulling down the "Logs" tab.
The tabs and the header of the geocache data sheet
| Ear | Content |
|---|---|
| Info | Basic data, attributes, description, hint and available editing actions. |
| Logs | Write entries and a new log for Geoláda. |
| Images | Pictures of the geocache data sheet. |
| Points | Main point, multipoints, own points, auxiliary points, password details and note. |
| Map | Map of the geocache and its associated points. |
With the heart icon in the header, you can switch on the favorite mark. The geocache or a related point can be selected as a destination from the navigation icon. The map layer selector manages the display associated with the map. The QR reader is available in the native app, outside of the Map tab.
Basic data, description, attributes and tip
On the "Info" page, you can switch between "Basic data" and "Description". Among the basic data, the name, geocache code and identifier, coordinate, height, type, status, hider and geocache host, dates, find numbers and difficulty values can appear. Only the data available for the geocache is visible.
With the web links, you can also open the geocache or user profile of geocaching.hu. A phone number is displayed if the data contains it. Attributes describe the nature of the environment and accessibility.
The "Show!" button next to "Hint" will reveal the hidden hint available. The Info page that opens at the start can be set to "Basic data" or "Description" with the field "Settings → Cache data → Default tab on info page".
Read description aloud
For the downloaded complete description, the reading can be started with the action "Read description aloud". Use the controls to pause, resume, or stop, as well as skip to the previous and next sentence or paragraph.
You can change the reading voice and speed in the "Settings → Cache data → Cache page reading" section. The voices that can be selected depend on the speech voices available on the device; the default system sound can also be used. Without a full description, the data sheet must be downloaded first.
View datasheet images
On the "Images" tab, you can browse through the images belonging to the geocache. The loading of images can be separately limited to Wi-Fi with the "Settings → Cache data → Load images on WiFi only" switch.
You can enlarge the image by spreading it with two fingers. If there are more images, you can reverse the page order by tapping the counter in the image viewer. This also works in the common image viewer of the geocache data sheet and log images; tap again to restore the original order. The operation changes the display, the uploaded images are not rearranged on the server.
If the images are not visible due to Wi-Fi restrictions, the image viewer indicates the reason and the type of connection. With the option "Temporarily unlock restriction" you can enable loading for the given use. Offline image storage is handled by “Settings → Offline use”; downloading the description alone does not mean that all images are offline.
Multipoints, own points and notes
Access: geocache data sheet → "Points". The list shows the geocache, multipoints, own points and auxiliary points separately. Tapping on a point opens the point's window; the editable data depends on the point type.
The coordinates of the main point and multipoints can only be read here, but you can save a password for them. Name, description and coordinates can be edited at the own points; the current GPS position can also be loaded for these. The auxiliary points window is for viewing only, there is no password field or saving. When entering your own coordinates, check the north/south and east/west directions.
You can create a new own point with the action "My points → New point". You can also delete your own point using the delete button available next to the line. The "Notes" field on the page is used for free-text geocache notes.
After typing, the geocache note is automatically saved with a short delay; there is no separate save button for it.
The "Show all cache points" switch in the map data window helps display related points. The "Places → Geoládák" panel controls the general display of multi- and own points of all geocaches.
Password details and QR codes
On the "Points" tab, you can also fill in the "Password" field for the main point, multipoints and own points; there is no such field for auxiliary points. With Multiláda, the password details collected at the locations can be saved separately. When writing a new log, the "Join password fragments" function can be opened with the top concatenation icon; the interface also offers space deletion. Before submitting, check the created password.
In a native application, the QR reader of the data sheet can save point data or password details from a supported code. This requires a camera license. Not all QR codes can be processed: the app may display an error in case of unknown content, incorrect coordinates or invalid point number. If the geocache in the code is not found in the local database, update the geocache list.
Some supported QR codes also open a new logo with a pre-filled geocache code and password. This requires an internet connection and geocaching.hu login. You still need to check the logo and send it separately: scanning is not an automatic submission.
Navigation and compass
Action "Navigation" in the data window of a map point offers options for the target. In the navigation menu of the geocache data sheet, in addition to the main point, multipoint, own point or auxiliary point can also be selected. External navigation apps available on your device may vary by platform.
"Compass" within the application shows the coordinates of your own position and the selected target, the direction and distance of the target as the crow flies. The coordinates can be copied. A waiting message without own position, a separate signal is displayed for a missing direction sensor. The compass gives a target direction as the crow flies; this alone does not result in a walkable route.
In addition to the distance as the crow flies, some point data windows can also show the distance according to the loaded route or route plan, if appropriate data is available.
Change geocache status
Access: geocache database → "Info" → "Edit", if the operation is available to logged-in geocaching.hu users. It is possible to change the status of your own hide. The last "found it" entry in the case of the moving box may entitle you to re-hide and change status.
After "Set to sick" or "Set to searchable", the app asks for confirmation. A pending status may appear for an offline operation; queuing is not the same as a change already made on the server.
Moving cache re-hide
If you are entitled to rehide the geocache, select "Re-hide" in the "Info → Edit" section. Enter the new coordinates or use the button "Current position". Height and new password fields are also available; the new password is optional.
Check GPS accuracy and data, then confirm rehiding. If there is no GPS position, the coordinate must be entered manually. Find the specific rules for moving and rehiding the moving crate in the description of the given geocache.
Open a coordinate from the description and copy it
By tapping on the recognized coordinate that appears as a link in the geocache description, the internal "Map" tab of the geocache opens, and the app asks to open the data window of the specified location. So, for example, you can view the parking lot or intermediate station in the description without typing it in separately. A pair of numbers appearing as plain text is not necessarily a clickable coordinate.
You can copy it to the clipboard by tapping on the pair of coordinates displayed in the geocache data and on the compass; where a copy icon is also visible, it serves the same purpose. The copied format is determined by the setting "Settings → General → Coordinate format". Copying itself does not create its own space.
