Search and filter
Find geocaches and important locations.
Open the Places panel
Access: bottom "Places" button on the main page. The panel is divided into “Geoládák”, “My collections”, “Attractions”, “Hiking points” and “Services” tabs. You can also go to the side for additional tabs on the horizontally scrollable tab row.
You can set filter conditions on the "Geoládák" tab, and location categories on the other tabs. Turning on the category manages map visibility. If the category data is not yet on the device, it is also necessary to download the data; you can check this on the corresponding settings page.
Filter geocaches by type, condition and find
Access: "Places → Geoládák". In the "Type" section, you can choose between traditional, multi, virtual, event and moving crates. "Status" controls the display of searchable, diseased and defunct geocaches. In the "User" section, you can filter by found, unfound, and own hides.
Leave "Not found" on and turn off "Found" only for geocaches not found; adjust the other filters to your purpose. In order to correctly classify your own finds, you need a geocaching.hu login and a recent personal search status. This app is downloaded when logging in and updating the geocache list.
Favorites, multipoints, crate exception and attributes
With the "Only favorites" setting, you can narrow the display to the geocaches marked with a heart. The "All multi- and own points" switch in the "Multi caches" section handles the map display of related points.
By enabling the "Show moving caches regardless of found status" exception, an already found moving crate can be seen even if you have otherwise hidden the found geocaches. If you want uniform search filtering, turn off this exception.
With the attributes, you can narrow down according to the characteristics of the geocaches, for example to view, waterfront or accessibility. The set conditions together narrow the range of geocaches; for a missing geocache, it is worth reviewing all filter groups.
Filtering location categories and visited points
Access: pages of panel "Places" other than Geoládák. You can toggle its display by tapping on the category icon. Where available, the buttons "All on" and "All off" link the categories of the current page together.
"Hide visited places" handles hiding places with already recorded visits. The radio points work separately from this: in addition to the specified call sign, the "Hide activated radio points" switch can be used on the "My collections" page. Radio activation is not the same as an on-site visit.
Search among downloaded geocaches and locations
Access: main menu → "Search". Enter at least three characters. You can search in the geocache code, name, full description and coordinates of the geocaches stored locally. The coordinate can match in the set format or as a decimal number.
Among the geocaches, the search engine only shows the geocaches allowed by the map filters. For locations, it searches for the names of the locations of the downloaded categories, regardless of whether the category is turned on or off on the map. There is no search in the full text of the location descriptions.
Among the results, the geocaches are displayed first, then the locations. Tapping on a geocache opens the data sheet, tapping a location opens the map. The app turns on the layer of the selected location and sets the map to the point. When going back, the search engine tries to keep the previous list position.
No search results
If you can't find the desired geocache or location on the "Search" page, check the following:
- Did you enter at least three characters?
- Is the geo chest list up to date?
- Isn't the geocache excluded by the filters for "Places → Geoládák"?
- When searching for a description, is the entire geocache database downloaded?
- When searching for a place, is the database of the category downloaded and does the term appear in the name of the place?
The search is not a full Internet location search: the separate page "Search" works from the data stored on the device.
Map search bar and Google location search
Access: the top magnifying glass icon on the main map. The map search bar offers results from at least two characters: it searches in the name and code of the geocaches corresponding to the map filters, in the name of the locations of the enabled categories, and in the Google location search engine. Local geocache and location results appear before Google results. The map is superimposed on the selected result.
A monthly supporter subscription is required to open the search bar in the native mobile application. Without a subscription, the app displays information instead of the search bar; this also affects the local offers of the band. The browser version also enables the search bar and Google location search without monthly support. Service provider availability is also a condition here.
Your own OpenRouteService key belongs to route planning and is not a substitute for mobile Google location authorization. The separate main menu → "Search" page is an alternative to local search.
List of nearby geocaches
Access: main menu → "Nearby caches". The list shows the name, code, marker and distance of the geocache. You can search in the list with the magnifying glass, and by tapping on the geocache you can open its data sheet.
The list requires location data and works from the circle allowed by map geocache filters. If your own position is not available, check the location first; for the missing geocache, also check the conditions of "Places → Geoládák". You can change the search area with the "Settings → General → Max distance for nearby caches" slider. The start page can also be changed to "Nearby caches".
